An Ateez x Harry Potter Fanfiction
This fanfiction also appears on my wattpad and substack newsletter. I wanted to put it up here on my website, though, too. I hope to finish it one day…although currently, I have a bunch of other projects on my plate. But I love Ateez, and I love Harry Potter, and I saw a picture of them all dressed in Hogwarts gear…so I got inspired and just started writing.
Also: new pin picture. I keep trying to share that I’m writing this because I want other people to feel the same magic, but I think my old pin design wasn’t really…showing what this was about. Now on the new pin (above), you can see the guys, and see the title, and see the house colors…yeah. Anyways.

Chapter 5 – Hogwarts University
The five of them exchanged confused glances and then stared back at Yunho. What was this about?
“Didn’t you hear me?” Yunho said between breaths, a hint of anger appearing on his face. “Let’s go – now! I was only given 10 minutes to find you and get you there or else we lose house points and all of us get detention for slacking off during the surprise assessment.”
Jongho had an uneasy feeling about this. Slacking off? All of them had just been attacked by something, so making sure everyone was safe and accounted for should have been the main priority. Shouldn’t it? The questions just kept stacking up, and Jongho didn’t even know where to begin anymore.
It was Wooyoung that voiced it out loud, though. “Slacking off? Yunho, did you forget that we were all just attacked by something in the lake? Like, why else do you think Seonghwa’s robes are ripped to shreds like that?”
He pointed towards Seonghwa who held up his arms. The damage was worse than Jongho had originally thought – large holes and rips had pretty much reduced the garment to rags. Just how close of a call had that situation been?
Yunho raised an eyebrow as he took in Seonghwa’s appearance, but then smirked. “Ahh – you can’t fool me. Battle with the giant spiders again? Or something a little more adventurous?” he joked. But none of them laughed or moved, and Yunho’s smirk faltered the longer the silence went on.
“Did…did something actually happen?” He asked quietly.
“Are you kidding, right now?” Wooyoung blurted out as he shot up, twisting around mid air. “You even sent up a distress signal with the other prefects. Remember? The lake? The things that attacked us? You were there, too! I saw you just before I turned to help Seonghwa…” he trailed off.
“I – wait, what?” Yunho said and raised his brows. “What are you talking about? An attack on the lake? We all worked together using a combination of transfiguration spells plus that levitation spell you and Hermione talked about.”
San frowned, while Seonghwa, Mingi, and Jongho all shared a look. Wooyoung bunched his eyebrows together. Yunho checked their faces each in turn and shifted his stance uncomfortably.
“And then we all made it safely to the other side of the lake,” Yunho continued tentatively. “We passed the surprise assessment. But they decided to do attendance, and the teachers noticed that you five were missing. I could have swore I saw you arrive with us, though, so I convinced them to let me find you…” he trailed off.
San stood up suddenly. “I see,” he said and cast a spell that repaired Seonghwa’s robes back to basically new. “We should get going, then. But first, take this.” He held out a vial of purple liquid.
Jongho wondered what San had figured out in the last few minutes, and how he already had a solution for it. Even Wooyoung looked a little confused, which was rare for him.
“That doesn’t look like…” Jongho started to say, but San interrupted him. “No, it’s not. We’ll talk about that later. This is to protect us against confundus charms. Take it. Now.” San opened it and took a small sip before offering the vial to the others. They passed it around and followed suit.
Almost as soon as the liquid touched Yunho’s lips, his eyes went wide and darted back and forth as if he was remembering things. A lot of things.
“Oh…oh my god,” he whispered as his expression darkened.
“Talk later,” San said and collected the vial from Yunho. “10 minutes goes fast. Let’s not attract any more attention. And pretend you don’t remember anything.” He clapped Yunho on the shoulder as he passed, and ran out the door. The others soon followed.

They reached Hagrid’s hut in no time and saw the other students that had been waiting. “Found them, professor!” Yunho yelled in a cracked voice once they rounded the cottage. San shot him a warning look and Yunho cleared his throat.
Professor McGonagall checked a little hour glass she was holding. “Just under 10 minutes,” she said from behind round spectacles dangling from her nose. “Very well. I expect the 5 of you to keep out of trouble as best you can in the future. This is a momentous occasion for the Wizarding world, and we’ve all worked hard to create a thorough curriculum to prepare you better for your adult lives. Please don’t let it happen again,” she addressed them and then turned to Harry, Ron, and Hermione. “And as for you three, don’t plan to follow in their footsteps.”
Harry and Ron bowed their heads as if that had been exactly what they were considering, but Hermione was…confused. Her eyebrows were pulled together, and she kept shaking her head as if there were water in her ears. San noticed it and went over to join her. He whispered something to her and pointed towards Jongho. She glanced over and nodded before returning her attention to McGonagall.
“Now that the new first year university tradition has been successfully completed and all are accounted for,” professor McGonagall said and looked pointedly at Jongho and his friends, “We’ll head to the new dining hall for your first meal as university students at Hogwarts. Follow me.” She turned and began to walk up the slanted grass towards the covered bridge.
Jongho hesitated as the others started moving. If even McGonagall had been affected by the confundus charm, it meant that something serious was going on. Most people weren’t powerful enough to cast over an entire group as big as this first year class, much less experienced witches and wizards.
Just what was going on? He didn’t have a good feeling. But the people around him were moving, and he went with them. He looked up at the castle above them and had to do a double take. Where once there had only been empty sky, and a deep gorge below, there was now a second stone castle with a thousand lights, archways, and a new formation of rock to support it all. It was much bigger than the regular Hogwarts castle, and some of the higher towers even had covered corridors that connected back. With how impressive it was in the dark, he felt a little excited to see it again in the daytime.
It was surprising that none of it had been visible from the Hogwarts station platform, and much more extensive than he had thought when the creature had flown him above it.
And soon, Jongho would be exploring every inch of it…or, at least he would be once they finished sorting out what was going on between them. With a chill, he remembered the talk with his friends in their home-base, and scanned the students to look for anything out of the ordinary. For the most part, everyone was chattering or awestruck at the new wing of the castle.
Everyone except for Hermione and Darcy.
The two of them weren’t anywhere near each other, but the animosity was clear. Darcy and the gaggle of Slytherins she had surrounded herself with were shooting dirty looks at Hermione, and Hermione was doing her best to send them straight back. He felt proud of her as a fellow Gryffindor.
Mingi clapped his hand down on Jongho’s shoulder and took his attention away. This time instead of thinking it must be a needed comfort, Jongho felt icy dread spread throughout his stomach. Maybe, all along, the gesture had been to keep tabs on him and make sure nothing happened? He didn’t like the possibility of that, and hoped that the veritaserum would set everything back to the way things should be. Whenever they had a chance later that night, he would make it happen so they could all move past this.
Whoever had set this situation up had done a really good job of making it believable.
Lost in thought, it took no time at all to get to the new turnoff at the covered bridge. And sure enough, professor McGonagall turned down this way. They walked for another few minutes before stepping into an arched courtyard that was nearly twin to the one at the old castle, complete with its own statues and fountains. Perhaps the biggest difference from what Jongho remembered was just how many statues there were – they were everywhere, and in every shape and size.
Given that transfiguration had played a big role in the battle of Hogwarts, he supposed that this was a positive change, albeit an ominous reminder. His chill deepened as they continued to walk.
The entrance to the new wing of the castle itself was a giant door covered in bells of various shapes and sizes. As everyone came to a halt, professor McGonagall raised her wand and chimes rang out in a specific pattern. The effect was quite beautiful, almost like a lullaby, and a little too relaxing. Jongho eyes became heavy and nearly closed when the sound suddenly stopped and the door sprang open. He shook his head as the sleepiness lifted, and saw that many of those around him were also doing the same.
At a first glance, the entrance hall of this new castle looked like a replica of the one in the old Hogwarts. But as Jongho scanned around, he realised that there were quite a few differences here and there. It was just enough to feel familiar and lure someone into a false sense of security, though.
But he suspected that this was done on purpose. No doubt, just like the extra statues in the courtyard, this design was probably a protective mechanism.
McGonagall led them up into the new wing’s great hall which was just as beautiful as the old one, but much larger and with two different levels of seating. The stairways that led to the upper area was blocked off, though, so everyone began to file towards seats at the heavily decorated house tables on the main level.
Mingi squeezed Jongho’s shoulder tightly as if it was a warning that he would be watching, and then released him to go join the Slytherins. Jongho tried to smile half-heartedly at his friend, but he was already gone. Instead, Wooyoung grabbed Jongho’s arm and steered him over to the Gryffindor table.
McGonagall found her way to the podium in front of the teachers table. Very few of the faces looking back were familiar. There was Hagrid, of course, and professor Trelawney. But all of the other professors looked new. Not all of them seemed friendly – some were scowling as the students got louder and louder.
McGonagall cleared her throat at the podium and amplified her voice. “Now, before we begin our start-of-term banquet, I have a few announcements. Please note that the Forbidden forest is no longer forbidden to you, although I urge you to use great caution. Encouraging the years 1 through 7 students to enter it, though, will result in a loss of house points and possible detention or expulsion. You are also free to return to the older sections of the castle between 8pm and 1am, after the younger students have been sent to their dormitories. If you should find any of them out wandering around,” she looked pointedly at Harry and Ron, “then it is expected that you will alert the faculty as soon as possible.”
Excited whispers went around the room. Whether anyone intended to report the students or not, it seemed to be general consensus that everyone was glad to be able to access the old areas of the school. Jongho had wondered how Hogwarts would handle that issue, since it seemed weird to be locked out entirely but equally as strange to be walking around with students half his age. This arrangement satisfied both issues.
“As for finding your way to your dormitories,” she continued, “maps and instructions have been given to your house prefects. You are to follow them this evening after the banquet. Once you reach the new common rooms, maps with your individual time tables will be waiting for you. And while you are expected to begin managing your own schedules appropriately, curfew is set at 1am to discourage certain behaviours.”
Beside him, Wooyoung snickered, and chatter broke out again across the hall. Jongho knew exactly what McGonagall was hoping to discourage – excessive exploring and trouble making.
He also also knew that it probably wasn’t going to work. Especially not for Seonghwa. Seonghwa had a knack for being wherever he wanted, whenever he wanted, and often times with the rest of them – or a few at a time – in tow. It must have been one of those memories that made Wooyoung snicker like that. Jongho, though, felt a twinge of sadness as he wondered what would happen to them this year. Would everything be able to go back to the way it was before?
Why on earth would anyone target them? He couldn’t figure it out no matter how much the question resurfaced.
“And in more exciting news,” McGonagall said with a new sparkle in her eyes. Everyone went silent to listen again. “As you know, other wizarding schools around the world have followed the university program initiative and created their own. In honor of this change – and in hopes of creating friendly cooperation – a new version of the tri-wizard tournament will take place for university first years over the course of this year.”
Beside Jongho, Wooyoung was practically bouncing in his seat as he heard this announcement. This was something on his bucket list. He had been too young to attend the most recent – and most disastrous – one that took place at the regular Hogwarts.
“Hell, I won’t even be mad if they cancel Quidditch this year for that. I’m totally entering,” he said and nudged Jongho.
“Of course. I’d expect nothing less.” Jongho smiled and nudged his friend back.
“You should enter, too. I bet there will be extra students chosen because there’s so many of us,” Wooyoung said and scanned the giant hall. Jongho wasn’t sure how he felt about it given everything that had just happened, so he stayed silent.
Others along the Gryffindor table were just as excited as Wooyoung and took his attention, though. Soon enough, he was busy making new friends. Some further along the table were even prodding Harry Potter and wiggling their eyebrows at him. But Harry shook his head and said, “likely not,” while Ron pouted and Hermione scowled.
McGonagall spoke over the buzzing in the hall. “This time, we’ve taken extra special steps to prepare the safeguards and contractual magic,” she said and smiled at Harry with softness in her eyes. He gave her a thin smile as she continued. “And we’ve also decided on new rules and guidelines. More information will be provided to you in the coming week. But for now – eat! And Welcome back to Hogwarts.”
Food appeared on the tables before them and Wooyoung dug in, despite his excitement and how much he probably wanted to continue sharing it with everyone around him. Jongho, though, felt like he was being watched and scanned the room to see who it could be. The eyes he found looking back at him surprised him the most.
